Karlstadt performed the first Reformed communion service, spoken in German and not in Latin. Wearing secular clothing, he let the people partake of both the bread and wine on their own, instead of having it be given to them.
1510 – Doctor of Theology from the University of Wittenberg
1512 – Karlstadt awards Luther with his Doctorate of Theology
1516 – While studying at Rome, (one full year before Luther’s Ninety-Five Theses) Karlstadt writes a series of 151 Theses, against corruption in the Catholic Church.
1519 – Johann Eck debates both Karlstadt and Luther at Leipzig. Karlstadt is named in the papal bull "Exsurge Domine" that threatens Luther and his followers with excommunication.
1521 – Karlstadt excommunicated. On Christmas Day, he performs the first Reformed communion service.
