Jonathan was a gift from God, a kindred spirit, and a true friend to David in a time of great need. His uncomplicated commitment to David, amidst very complicated circumstances, gives us a picture of what true Godly friendship looks like when we have it. It also encourages us to ask for the spirit of Jonathan; that we may be able to reciprocate this unconditional love in our relationships.
