God made an everlasting covenant with Abraham. He blessed him and gave him the promise of land and seed, which would go on to become a great nation. Abraham passes on his possessions and all of these promises as an inheritance to his son Isaac, and Isaac to his son Jacob/Israel. But after Jacob/Israel dies, people get confused about how this inheritance, which includes the promises of seed, land, and kings, is passed on.
