The church at Smyrna, representing preparation for death, gives us a picture of true commitment and sacrifice, which ultimately lead to martyrdom. Although we don't have to face martyrdom, we can still apply the message to our lives: there is a purpose for the suffering and tribulation we go through, and it's all preparation for eternal life. If we remain faithful in our commitments, we are promised the crown of a victor.
