Paul makes four categories of mankind: the natural man, babes in Christ, carnal believers, and spiritual Christians. The natural man cannot hear the message; the babe in Christ grows, feeding on the sincere milk of the Word; carnal believers are never confronted with facing themselves, leaving them in a state of arrested spiritual development; and spiritual Christians constantly feed on the Word, both milk and meat. Some marks of carnality are envying, strife, and divisions, which are in stark contrast with the marks of spirituality: the radiating of God’s love in us, hand in hand with faith.
